Online Library User's Guide: Faculty Resources

Teaching Support

The Library Director can consult with you on ideas for maintaining instructional continuity around research assignments and the availability of library resources.  Course-specific research guides, video tutorials, and learning activities can be created and integrated into Blackboard.

Alternatives to Textbooks on Course Reserves

When campus is open but students are unable to visit campus in person, they may not have access to textbooks on Course Reserves. This may impact their ability to complete assignments, participate in class discussions, and hinder academic success. Library staff can support remote learning by:

  • Scanning materials for use in Blackboard in compliance with copyright law
  • Providing links to GC-owned articles, ebooks, and streaming videos
  • Purchasing ebooks and streaming media contingent upon funding availability and licensing terms

Consider using an Open Textbook as an alternative instructional material. Open textbooks are books covered by an open copyright license and available freely to students, teachers, and members of the public. Most open textbook licenses allow the right to access, download, revise, or customize the content.

See our Open Educational Resources (OER) LibGuide for more details.
