Tutor Responsibilities
- Contact the Director in advance if unable to attend a scheduled center shift. Tutors who miss a scheduled shift without notifying the Director in advance will be marked as a “no-show.” Tutors who have two “no-shows” or repeated cancellations will be dropped from the tutoring schedule.
- Complete all paperwork, including timesheets, on time and return to Director.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all student information and records. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines apply. This includes but is not limited to the student’s progress in tutoring and in the student’s classes (i.e., grades). If you have any questions about confidentiality, please talk with the Director.
- Communicate with the Director about any questions, concerns, or difficulties encountered during tutoring.
- Attend all scheduled tutor meetings, center shifts, training sessions, and individual tutoring appointments (if applicable).
Tutee Responsibilities
- Come to sessions prepared with textbook, notes, pen/pencil, and other necessary materials.
- Prepare for sessions by developing questions or identifying content areas in which you need clarification and/or review.
- Attempt related homework assignments before sessions. Tutors will not complete homework for you. Instead, they will work on practice problems with you.
- Participate actively in all aspects of the tutoring session: ask questions, take notes, complete practice problems or tasks assigned by tutor.
- Attend all classes on-time (no skipped classes, no late attendance, etc.) and be prepared for class by completing all homework and reading assignments in advance of class.
- For individual tutoring appointments: contact the Director AND your tutor if unable to attend a scheduled session. Students who miss a scheduled session without notifying the Director and tutor will be marked as a “no-show.” Students who have two “no-shows” or repeated cancellations will be dropped from a tutor’s schedule.
Joint Responsibilities
- Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions.
- Arrive on time to all scheduled tutoring sessions.
- Be an active participant in the tutoring process and ask questions if you do not understand an issue or have a specific concern.
- Give tutor/tutee your full attention during the tutoring session. Turn off cell phones or have them on silent and out of sight during session. Take out ear buds. Do not listen to I-pods, MP3 players, or other devices during sessions.
- Check Garrett College email account on at least a daily basis. Failure to check and read College email will not be accepted as a valid excuse for failure to respond or act in a timely, appropriate manner.
