Before you turn in your paper, always give it a final proofread. If possible, ask someone else to look over it, too. Sometimes you are so familiar with your paper that you do not catch mistakes as easily as someone else, so it's a good idea to have another person read it. Be on the lookout for grammar mistakes and formatting errors.

Do’s and Don’ts of Essay Writing:

  • Do use complete sentences.
  • Don't use run-on sentences. 
  • Do use proper punctuation. 
  • Don’t use bullet points in your final essay.
  • Do use a thesaurus for a wider vocabulary in your paper.
  • Don’t plagiarize.
  • Don’t use slang or conversational language.
  • Do be clear, concise, and professional.
  • Do check spelling and grammar.
  • One Sentence ≠ Paragraph
  • One Paragraph ≠ Essay 
  • Most importantly, DO ask your professor if you have any questions or are struggling.
