EMAIL ADVISING may not necessarily be the most effective use of time, but you might consider offering an email appointment if the student is concerned about dedicated access to a phone or wifi for a 30-minute period. Email appointments will suffice in connecting with students during Best Chance Advising if face-to-face, video, and phone appointments are not option.
Email Advising Tips:
Be patient. Communication is asynchronous and may be delayed. Urge students to complete the required 'appointment discussion' part of the email exchange as promptly as possible.
It's a good idea to follow-up an email advising appointment with one final email to the student to recap what was discussed, any website links or PDFs that the student should look at, and any additional information that the student should know at that time.
Thanks for exchanging a few emails with me over the last two days. I am pleased to hear about your how well your semester is going, despite the circumstances. I applaud your decision to take a winter CIS 105 course - that will help advance your degree progress. And the courses you selected for the spring semester also fall in line with your degree requirements for Sport Management. I might suggest you consider retaking that SPC 101 course you previously failed.
I've granted you clearance to register for both winter and spring classes. Please use the Student Portal to self-register within the next 48 hours. If you need a little help, you can see detailed instructions and how-to videos in your Blackboard AASC Student Resources course. You may also contact the AASC at aasc@garrettcollege.edu or 301-387-3715 for support. I look forward to talking with you again soon!
