The Cartesian Plane

Graphing is done on the Cartesian Plane, so it's important that you understand what it is. This plane is made up of a vertical line and a horizontal line that cross each other in the middle. The vertical line is called the y-axis, the horizontal line is called the x-axis, and the point where they cross is called the origin. The four sections created by the two lines are referred to as Quadrants. You can easily graph any equation on the Cartesian Plane by plotting points. Points are also referred to as order pairs, written as (x, y)
